On Monday night, Shayne Oliver, formerly of Hood By Air made his debut for the newly relaunched Helmut Lang. The SS18 collection is a part of a yearlong artist series spearheaded by Isabella Burley, the Editor-in-Residence and current Editor-in-Chief of Dazed magazine. The collection made tribute to archival Helmut Lang, as did the casting by featuring Kirsten Owen and Jake Boyle. Street casting was by Walter Pearce of Midland and agency casting by Samuel Ellis Scheinman.
Hints of BDSM studded the gender fluid collection with metal rings, chain-and-lock boots, leather pieces and straps, and asymmetrical tops that anchored several looks. If there were words to sum up the show it would come from the show itself, a bag held over a model’s face upside down printed with a newspaper headline that read: “UNCOMMON ACTION IN A SOCIETY OF REPRESSED THOUGHT.”
Also released with the collection was a campaign preview: “Preview Seen by Nicolai Howalt” featuring Unia Pakhomova. Images from the campaign preview and the full show follow below.
