When we heard the Sies Marjan SS2020 show would be held at the Surrogate’s Courthouse in downtown Manhattan we knew it would be an opulent show. The beautiful Beaux Arts courthouse, completed in 1907 to house the city’s municipal records, embodies extravagance. The grand interior staircase became the runway for the show and was designed by Fay Kellogg, one of the first and ‘foremost women architects in the United States.’
A fitting backdrop as Sies Marjan presented an unashamedly luxurious and feminine collection. These are looks that are meant to be elegantly worn. Luxurious staple pieces like embossed croc or silken suits turn heads. As we’ve seen in previous collections, Sies continued to display his mastery of monochromatic melodrama.
Using the color palette as a common thread, he introduced a wide range of luxurious fabrics in this collection; draping, cinching, and belting to form very wearable ensembles. Our favorite looks are the complete embossed croc look in red or purple and the cinched emerald green vinyl coat.
