Acne Studios’ Spring/Summer 2024 Channels Industrial Elegance and Femininity

September 29, 2023

Acne Studios unveils a captivating Women’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, blending elevated industrial aesthetics with fashion forward femininity. Set in L’Observatoire de Paris, a place bathed in the rich heritage of astronomical observations, the show serves as a canvas for explorative fashion. The atmosphere, created by a lounge adorned with ecru canvas and a deconstructed disco ball, resonates with soft liberation and a magical anticipation, allowing guests to lose themselves in the realm of after-hours sophistication.

Setting the Mood

The mood is further intensified by the soft furnishings by Austrian artist Lukas Gschwandtner and the atmospheric music by electronic duo Giant Swan. This integration of auditory and visual experiences conjures a space where time and inhibitions are momentarily forgotten, creating a unique ambiance for showcasing the innovative collection.

Inspirational Alchemy

The collection draws inspiration from British artist Katerina Jebb’s work, “Physical Evidence of a Woman”, where scanned symbols of feminine dress codes such as red stilettos, false eyelashes, and lady tights are subverted and juxtaposed with avant-garde rawness. Creative director Jonny Johansson’s passion for denim and his fascination with the industrial atmosphere of construction sites informs the aesthetic, conveying the beauty of the unfinished and the ongoing.

Fabric and Color Palette

Fabrics see a transformation, with denim elevated to artwork through applications of white paint and crackled, clay-like treatments. Leather is manipulated and molded around the body, paying subtle homage to the denim industry through the addition of pockets and belt loop details. The color palette is a dialogue between cement tones of white and grey and vivid signal colors of blue, green, and red, interspersed with delicate pastel hues.

Silhouettes in this collection are a dance between floating and sculptural, between the draped and the couturesque, creating a visage slightly undone. The prints, reimagined symbols of femininity, play a pivotal role in enhancing the dresses and tops, while the accessories maintain a minimalistic and understated approach.

Footwear sees a return to femininity with the stiletto pump playing the hero, inspired by and central to Katerina Jebb’s artwork, while accessories maintain minimalism, with knee-high transparent socks paired with oversized futuristic sunglasses, adding a touch of modern simplicity.

Bags – A Symbolic Return

The Multipocket bag makes a return in vibrant glossy red, brushed icy blue, and shiny brown leather, symbolizing a blend of functionality and style, reminiscent of tool belts and vintage camera bags. The introduction of a dimple-shaped bowling bag and glossy structured studded bags add a touch of glamour, evoking images of miniature disco balls.

Acne Studios’ Spring/Summer 2024 collection is a sublime representation of elevated industrial femininity. It's a journey through juxtaposed elements, a blend of the raw and the refined, the subtle and the vivid. It serves as a reminder of the transformative power of fashion, its ability to redefine norms, and its role as a narrative of our times, where the lines between genders are blurred and labels are transcended, resonating with the essence of modern fashion evolution.
