In an unparalleled fusion of Parisian haute couture and Las Vegas spectacle, designer Alexandre Vauthier has crafted a series of custom couture masterpieces for the Venetian Resort's latest show, Voltaire, and its premier act, pop icon Kylie Minogue. The partnership signifies a bold venture into a new dimension of live performance, promising to elevate the standard of nightlife entertainment on the Vegas Strip.

A Couturier's Narrative: Crafting the Visuals of Voltaire

After two years of meticulous planning with producers Michael Gruber, Marc Zaffuto, and Manon Savary of Paris' Manko restaurant, Vauthier has manifested a visual spectacle that integrates with Voltaire’s dynamic narrative. The result? A constantly evolving theatrical experience, where the allure of couture is a constant presence. Vauthier's atelier has diligently crafted 141 individual pieces, with some ensembles demanding over 2,000 hours of artisanal labor.

Vauthier, known for his elegant and glamorous designs, expressed his desire for guests to be enveloped by the couture experience from their very first moment inside the theater. "We didn’t think about simple costumes, but instead each look is imagined as being part of the conception of a whole collection," he explained, underscoring the thematic and aesthetic cohesion of his work.

The Art of Couture: Masterpieces of Performance Wear

Les Métiers d’Arts, renowned collaborators of Vauthier's seasonal Couture Collections, and Stefano Canulli—Vauthier’s comrade from their tenure with Thierry Mugler—have joined forces once again to create the Voltaire costumes. Alongside Simon Crowhurst, who brings his expertise from Cirque du Soleil, the team has incorporated the flamboyance of Bob Mackie's design philosophy into the high-caliber performance requirements of a Vegas show.

Functionality married aesthetic in Vauthier's designs, as he catered to the rigorous demands of the show's acrobats and dancers. This attention to practicality extended to the show's broader cast, venue staff, and hosts, with a focus on ensuring comfort during high-intensity performances. Vauthier's vision even included bespoke sunglasses crafted in collaboration with Alain Mikli, a continuation of their joint ventures dating back to 2018.

Dressing the Stars: Kylie Minogue’s Custom Couture

The synergy between Vauthier and Kylie Minogue was evident from their first meeting. "When I met with Kylie for this project, we immediately were in sync, yearning to bring back to life the spirit of the historic night clubs that defined nightlife culture in New York, and today happening in Vegas, with a festive and glamorous energy," Vauthier said. For Minogue, he conceptualized three exclusive looks that encapsulated the essence of her electrifying stage presence.

The centerpiece costume—a dazzling, asymmetrical fringed dress featuring a gradient of crystal rainbow hues, complemented by yellow crystal sunglasses—demanded 2,000 hours to perfect its stage-worthy gradient effect. Echoing the extravagant style of Liberace, a pink faux fur coat became the statement of the second look, while a leopard crystal-embroidered jumpsuit paired with boots from Giuseppe Zanotti completed the trio of designs.

Vauthier reflected on the creative journey, "It was a great experience to work creatively with the hyper playful, casual, fun, nightlife part of my brain. Normally I am a more balanced person, so together we had to find the good tone with just a little twist of the recognizable sexy attitude which is so important to the DNA of the house."
