1017-ALYX-9SM presents the Men’s and Women’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection in Paris. Technical details and hardware have found their way into the lexicon of fashion through practical and decorative demonstrations for decades, but it wasn’t until lines like Matthew Williams‘ ALYX changed all that. His approach incorporates a technical aesthetic as the protagonist with sharp tailoring and thoughtful construction supporting the craft. Mixing tradition with technology, the brand partners with Italian tailors as seamlessly as it employs 3-D printing of fabrics throughout the collection in an environmentally friendly, nearly waste-free, process.
For this collection, sculptural details by Antonia Evans translate natural forms into hardware cast from resin and metal. Like the instantly recognizable metal buckles, eyelets, and zips, these become signatures for the brand. For ALYX, luxury is about blurring the lines between utility, craft, conscience, and refinement – all bubbling up into a sharp utilitarian aesthetic and distinctive attitude.
