Anthony Vaccarello took a new look at bohemian glam through a high-energy show for Saint Laurent SS2020 in Paris. The collection dazzled with sequin adorned smoking jackets, dresses, and jumpsuits. Vaccerello’s signature sexy, skin-is-in approach makes a lot of sense for evening-wear though we wonder how much of the collection can make it under the sun.
His unrelenting glamorized approach recall the days of YSL under Tom Ford where he also took a risqué approach for the label. Arguably it’s the roots of the brand going back to the vision of Yves Saint Laurent himself. It’s not a bad way to go.
Apart from classic Saint Laurent silhouettes like the smoking jacket, leopard print, and a nearly all black color palette, what we most appreciated was the leitmotif of the brand’s fabled history with Morocco. Head scarves, gold embroidery, and influence from North Africa appeared effortlessly throughout the collection.
It’s hard to put your finger on it exactly because it’s so subtle, but it’s unmistakable something has shifted as Vaccerello perfects his vision of his Saint Laurent woman.
