Burberry announces a multi-year partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) to transform its iconic Fashion Gallery. The collaboration, revealed today, will see the gallery renamed "The Burberry Gallery" when it reopens in spring 2027 following extensive renovations.
The partnership between Burberry and the V&A marks a union of two cultural powerhouses with shared histories—both founded in the same decade over 150 years ago—that have become cornerstones of British fashion. Last structurally redeveloped in 1962, the Fashion Gallery remains one of the V&A’s most visited and beloved exhibition spaces.
Chief Executive Officer Joshua Schulman remarked, "Burberry's partnership with the V&A marks a milestone moment for British arts and culture. It unites two centuries-old cultural icons with a shared legacy of heritage and innovation, and a commitment to championing creativity. We are so thrilled to come together with the V&A team to celebrate the rich history of fashion and to develop an immersive space that will inspire creative minds for generations to come."

The redesigned Burberry Gallery will be a visually stunning and immersive space, offering innovative ways for visitors to interact with the V&A’s world-class fashion collection. With a scope spanning five centuries, the collection features works from influential designers and iconic brands. The gallery will maintain its expansive approach while integrating new, participatory elements designed to inspire creativity in future generations.

Alongside the physical transformation, the collaboration will introduce an extensive activity program that spans onsite, offline, and online formats. This initiative is part of both institutions’ shared commitment to increasing access to fashion education and nurturing emerging creative talent.
Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A, spoke to the significance of the partnership: "Founded in the same decade, for over 150 years the V&A and Burberry have been pillars of British fashion. Global in our reach, whilst champions of UK art and design, we share a commitment to ensuring our proud heritage inspires the next generation of creatives. This partnership allows us to share the V&A's incredible collections in new and accessible ways and, with Burberry, support education and craftsmanship across the country. The V&A is hugely honored to display the Burberry name above one of the very greatest fashion galleries in the world."
This collaboration further underscores Burberry’s longstanding support for arts and culture, both at home and abroad. The luxury brand has previously partnered with the British Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia, the Royal Academy for the Thomas Burberry Prize, and has chosen prestigious cultural landmarks for runway presentations, such as Tate Britain for its Winter 2025 collection and the National Theatre for its Summer 2025 collection.
The V&A’s Fashion Gallery will close on Sunday, May 4, to begin its transformation. In the interim, fashion enthusiasts can still engage with the museum’s collections at V&A East Storehouse, opening on May 31, 2025, or online at vam.ac.uk.
As two cultural institutions that have shaped British fashion for more than a century and a half, this partnership is not only an architectural redevelopment but also a forward-thinking commitment to preserving fashion history while inspiring future innovation.
