CHANEL travels to Los Angeles, California, for the Cruise 2023-24 show. Fashion and cinema combine for glamour and fun with the stars.
Between a tribute to the glamour of great film stars and evoking the world of fun to be had with aerobics, sports and roller skating, between the dream on one hand and what you want to wear on the other, it’s all a question of balance.Virginie Viard, CHANEL Artistic Director
Taking inspiration from the glamour of the 1920s and 30s, and the rhythms of the 70s and 80s, the collection is an elegant and joyful take on the codes of CHANEL.
Rhinestone mini-shorts, jumpsuits, embroidered bustiers, and little tank tops walk with leg-warmers, evening dresses, bathrobes, and casual pajamas. Contrasting CHANEL’s iconic monochromatic colors, bursts of pink, a color dear to Virginie Viard, play alongside gold, evocative of cinema, and the eternal California sun, all convey a burst of vitality for Cruise.
The care imbued in fabrics, embroideries, and prints is at the heart of the collection and CHANEL. A range of motifs from geometric to figurative dazzle in the collection: gold squares, black and gold chevrons, disco balls, milkshakes, and roller skates – a spirit favored by Karl Lagerfeld, who was honored at the 2023 Met Gala this year, coconut palms and sunsets over the Pacific Ocean.
The idea is to offer a breath of fresh air, a voyage, a light-hearted and happy fantasy.Virginie Viard
