Chanel Defines Modern Elegance for SS2020
“Adornment, what a science! Beauty, what a weapon! Modesty, what elegance!” Coco Chanel famously remarked. Her words and philosophies are memorialized in the psyche of fashion and continue to inform the namesake collection for spring/summer 2020. The eighty-three look collection was designed by Virginie Viard and shown in Paris. Quite literally, I might add. The background of the show was a life-size model of the famous Parisian rooftops. Against the scenic backdrop, the collection felt fresh and vibrant with dizzying lines and colorful motifs.
The brilliant aspect of Chanel is that ready-to-wear is approached as a wardrobe not as sensational pieces or with a reliance on repetition. You can’t imagine this would all be the same girl. There were lots of personalities on the runway but all defined with a modern sense of elegance passed down from Coco Chanel. The celebrities in attendance seemed to agree. Cardi B, Ace Tee, and Juliette Dol all wore stunning looks by Chanel to the show.
