Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY’s AW24 Campaign: A Punk-Infused Scottish Fantasy

July 23, 2024

In a blend of punk and Scottish charm, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY’s Autumn Winter 2024 collection takes us to the fictional village of Moshkirk – a place stuck in 1979. As the brand celebrates its tenth anniversary, Creative Director Charles Jeffrey combines nostalgia with modernity in a strikingly creative way.

A Scottish village cut off from the world by a mysterious meteor leaves its inhabitants forever in the year 1979. This is the premise of the collection, titled "The Curious Case of Moshkirk & Booness." The story, speculated to be written by an 18-year-old villager named Magnus McPewitt, sets the tone for a collection that's both a commentary on society and a fashion statement.

A Punk-Infused Time Capsule

The collection becomes a time capsule capturing an era filled with punk, dancehall, disco, and new wave. Jeffrey's designs mix the rebellious spirit of '79 with modernity that forms new fits that feel both familiar and new.

Highlights include silky black jacquard suits with oversized safety pins – a nod to punk's DIY style. Trousers tucked into zebra print boots bring to mind adventurous highland treks, while diagonal black miniskirts with rivets and buckles offer a playful take on punk classics.

Clash of the Tartans

No Scottish-themed collection is complete without tartan, and Jeffrey consistently delivers. The designer introduces Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY's own tartan pattern across coats, blazers, trousers, and accessories. Traditional Argyle appears too, but in a disrupted form on a post-punk jumper, capturing the collection's unique vibe.

Knitwear Takes a Turn

Knitwear gets a whimsical twist with loose-fitting jumpers featuring monstrous elements. Another jumper showcases a fragmented "LOVERBOY" motif, hinting at the collection's dystopian themes. Dramatically long scarves and Little Black Dresses with skewed hems add to the feeling that in Moshkirk, nothing is quite as it seems.

Show-Stealing Accessories

The accessories in this collection are unforgettable. The brand's well-known ears beanie has evolved into character-filled balaclavas, and claw-detailed moccasin boots add a fantastical touch to every outfit.

A Musical Manifesto

Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY introduces the collection with a punk-inspired music video, featuring a score by Jeffrey's own band. This approach not only showcases the clothes but also immerses viewers in the world of Moshkirk, complete with crocodile drummers and eye-covered red suits.

Looking Ahead: From London to Paris

As Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY celebrates its tenth year, the brand announces a move from its usual London and Milan showcases to Paris. This change marks a new chapter for the brand, with an intimate production planned to kick off a year-long anniversary celebration in 2024.

"The Curious Case of Moshkirk & Booness" is a complete world that embraces Scottish heritage, punk rebellion, and the power of fashion. With the Paris debut on the horizon, the next decade of LOVERBOY promises to be as exciting and innovative as the first.
