Denim Reimagined: Coco Rocha Stuns in Custom Gap Denim Gown at FGI’s 40th Anniversary

October 17, 2024

Supermodel Coco Rocha graced the Fashion Group International's 40th Anniversary Event wearing a Haute Couture Gap ensemble designed by Gap Inc.'s Executive Vice President and Creative Director, Zac Posen, channeling iconic American casual wear with high fashion sensibilities.

Following Anne Hathaway’s stunning custom Posen ensemble, this mesmerizing gown is similarly an impressive upcycled design crafted from repurposed Gap Icon Denim Jackets. Posen, reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Rocha, shared, "I've collaborated with Coco for over two decades — she's a couture lifer. I chose this for her because I loved the idea of taking something utilitarian and turning it into couture.”

The dress is a testament to creative reimagining with its asymmetrical neckline and strategic cut-outs balancing homage to the jacket’s evolution while designing an eye-catching silhouette. The deep indigo of the denim provides a rich backdrop for the intricate detailing, including visible seams and pocket placements that serve as reminders of the garment's egalitarian origins.

"Cut and shaped for all of Coco's moves on the carpet," Posen added, highlighting the dress's functionality alongside its striking appearance. Indeed, as Rocha posed in an ornate interior, the gown's high slit and form-fitting structure allowed for the supermodel’s iconic dynamic presence.

By elevating everyday denim to Haute Couture, Gap is positioning itself at the forefront of the ongoing conversation about sustainability and innovation in the fashion industry. As fashion continues to grapple with its environmental impact, this moment illustrates how creativity and conscience can coexist through innovation, and the familiar into the fantastical.
