Kim Jones, Dior’s Artistic Director, presents the Summer 2021 collection lookbook. The collection was conceived as a collaboration with renown Ghanian artist, Amoako Boafo. Jones has a special connection with Africa having visited Ethiopia, Botswana, Kenya, and Tanzania in his childhood.
Jones first learned of Boafo’s art while visiting the Rubell Museum in Miami in 2019. Tremaine Emory said of Kim Jones’ connection with Boafo’s art, “Amoako’s art drowns the viewer in the shimmering light of the black gaze, which we so rarely see in fashion of the art world. Each of his subjects celebrates black life, black skin shrouded in exuberant colors splayed across his canvases.”
