In an announcement that surprised the fashion community, Dries Van Noten, the esteemed Belgian Designer, told the world he was to step down from his role at his eponymous label. With a career that has nearly spanned four decades, Van Noten has become a pillar in the industry. Since his graduation from the esteemed Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he has become part of the acclaimed Antwerp Six and earned accolades such as Flemish Royal Academy of Belgium's Gold Medal and the Couture Council of the Museum at the prestigious Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion from the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. His decision to leave his label marks the end of an era, but also allows for a new wave of designers to bring their own creative views to the label.
Van Noten's departure will occur after his final show: the Men’s Spring Summer 2025 collection. However, the Women’s Spring Summer 2025 collection will be put together by his studio team, who have been crucial to the development of the brand. He says that the next designer to continue the story of Dries Van Noten will be disclosed in due time, building a high amount of anticipation behind the announcement, alluding that his successor will be an upcoming talent of the new generation.
