Dua Lipa has set the internet ablaze with the release of her new music video for "Illusion," the latest single from her highly-anticipated album Radical Optimism. The visuals, directed by Tanu Muino, were shot at the iconic Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc in Barcelona, and feature the pop sensation donning a stunning Gucci Fall Winter 2024 black lace mini dress, embroidered with the brand's iconic Flora pattern and adorned with velvet details.
The video is a visual journey with Lipa performing amidst a backdrop of dancers, high divers, and synchronized swimmers. The picturesque swimming pool, which was also the location for Kylie Minogue's "Slow" video in 2003, serves as the perfect backdrop for Lipa's mesmerizing choreography and captivating presence.
“‘Illusion’ was the first song Caroline, Danny, Tobias, Kevin and I worked on together, and it really broke the ice for the record” Lipa says. “It’s about knowing what you’re getting yourself into, but staying for the hell of it. The joke’s on them, it’s the fun of playing someone at their own game because ultimately you won’t fall for an illusion.”
The climax of the video sees Lipa scaling a structure inspired by the traditional Catalonian human towers, called castells, in a breathtaking display of strength and grace. Co-written by Lipa, Caroline Ailin, Danny L Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Kevin Parker, "Illusion" is a playful exploration of the game of love, with Lipa reveling in the thrill of playing someone at their own game, refusing to fall for the illusion.
With her latest visual masterpiece, Dua Lipa has once again proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of pop music, seamlessly blending fashion, art, and music into a captivating spectacle that leaves fans eagerly anticipating the release of Radical Optimism on May 3.
