Ferragamo FW25: Pina’s Dance

March 3, 2025

Maximilian Davis' series of Ferragamo collections dedicated to dance continues for FW25

"In dance, I could express all the feelings that I could not say with words," said Pina Bausch, the inspiration behind Maximilian Davis' Fall-Winter 2025 collection for Ferragamo. Following a successful Spring-Summer show in reference to the history of ballet, Davis channeled the unconventional, often barefoot style of Bausch's Tanztheater for his latest show at Milan Fashion Week.

The collection's key silhouettes are seen in Bausch's most famous choreography, Café Müller: large blazers and long, floor-dragging slip dresses with no pesky bras in sight. Her dancers wore what was easiest to express unbridled creativity in, thrashing about the stage with their eyes closed, bumping into furniture and walls, meeting their true selves in love, lust, and languishment. Wild, wise, and visionary are a few of the many words used to describe Bausch's work, matching the raw authenticity of Davis's Ferragamo.

From ruffled red feathers, fluttering tassels, and liquid silks, the unfettered movement of Bausch's dance is captured and set free by Davis, as he leans into the same eras of feminism and rebellion that Bausch was so inspired by. Drop waists in the style of the 1920s were walked on the same rose petal-covered runway as patent peep toes, honoring the maison's codes of yesteryears.

Ferragamo's signature Hug Bags were doubled up and worn as a belt for hands-free, multi-purpose movement over a neutral palette of leggings and loose-fitting trousers. Bausch encouraged the use of street clothes in lieu of leotards, one of the many progressive eccentricities that got her performances yelled at and walked out on, but ultimately treasured. Soft leathers and cashmere sweaters spoke for a preference for comfort above all else.

Trench coats were buttoned to the top while silky textures and skirts with thigh-baring double slits canceled out any unwelcome austerity. Sashes left untied reflect the whimsy to be had in embracing an imperfect world. In tribute to a dance master whose muse was her strongest emotions, Davis designs for real people and the most intimate of human interactions.

Guests included Maya Stepper, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Lucky Blue Smith, Nara Smith, and Martina Ferragamo, with appearances on the runway by Adriana Lima, Alex Consani, and Paloma Elsesser.
