Genny's FW25 Collection Celebrates Feminine Duality Through Traditional Silhouettes And Modern Comfort

It was a heritage collection all about feminine symbolism at the Genny Fall-Winter 2025 show at Milan Fashion Week. Creative director Sara Cavazza Facchini’s show notes touch on the legacy of Gianni Versace and his affinity for tassel motifs found in her new collection, “THE MERIT OF WOMEN”: “For Versace in 1993, it was a graphic sign of great elegance, a sort of geometric grid closed at the bottom by the tassel, to which a heart, an eternal symbol of love, is added today.”

Versace served as Genny’s creative director from 1973-1990, where he got his start in the fashion world, leading to the opening of his own boutique in 1978. Cavazza Facchini helped reshape the brand’s identity following a relaunch in 2011, but the core values of Versace’s time at Genny remains: femininity, elegance, and a special emphasis on comfort. Cavazza Facchini is known to try on fabrics herself before finalizing collections, testing for day-to-night wearability, necessary for women with the superpower ability of juggling multiple roles. Apart from the brand’s olympian history, Cavazza Facchini’s own experience not only as an entrepreneur, but also as a mother, inform her design choices in “THE MERIT OF WOMEN” as a testament to modern femininity.

And yet, it was traditional silhouettes echoing the brand’s initial 1960s success that reigned as mini skirts and white gogo boots flounced down the runway, tassel-heart necklaces swinging in liberation. Who needs pants when one has the protection of a fur coat and tall boots? Light petal pink puffs trimmed the collection’s star: a soft grey tweed trench left untied to reveal a champagne silk blouse and skirt ensemble over knee high boots in plum, a color that dominated this season’s trends in leather goods and footwear. Cavazza Facchini’s hemlines are noticeably shorter this season, a move likely to be well received, for in this economy, the girls just want to have fun.

Though rich with feminine Yin energy, Cavazza Facchini equally poured into the Yang of her collection, a nod to the duality of “THE MERIT OF WOMEN.” Midnight blue and black ink half of the designs as parachute pants and peplums appear more mature than collections past. It’s a contrasting effect by Cavazza Facchini that mirrors the balancing act in the journey from girl to woman.

Cavazza Facchini made it a point to open and close her show with Isabeli Fontana, who famously took a break at the height of her career to be present for her children. The supermodel, who posed for fifty-eight Vogue covers yet crowned motherhood as her greatest accomplishment, speaks for “THE MERIT OF WOMEN” in her own right, as she spends her time as a model off duty making investments for her family’s future. Elegance is always subjective, but it is Cavazza Facchini’s thoughtful details–from casting to comfort–that elevate Genny in ways that reach the multi-faceted women of today.
