Givenchy fall winter 2022

March 10, 2022

Matthew Williams presents the Givenchy fall winter 2022 collection as part of Paris Fashion Week.

“I really wanted to create a synthesis of powerful, sophisticated femininity, with an interplay of multiple American and Parisian influences, sports and craftsmanship. Next to her stands a contemporary man with an instinct for chic nonchalance. On the runway, both are grounded by a sense of reality.”

— Matthew M. Williams, Creative Director of Givenchy.

With the sensibility of haute couture, Williams looks to grunge influences for Givenchy fall winter 2022. The spirit of rebellion and rock music is in the air. A single bright yellow dress punctuates an almost otherwise all black collection. How punk.

While the critics have had a mixed response to this collection it feels timely and relevant to a new generation that is increasingly miffed by the traditions of high fashion. A similar response followed Kris Van Assche when he went down this path at Dior in fall 2018. Yet somehow with Williams it feels very cool and updated, very of the moment. Sometimes it takes a while for the fashion crowd to catch up.
