Gucci Shatters Boundaries with Eye-Catching ‘Design Ancora’ Exhibit of Reimagined Italian Masterpieces
April 16, 2024
Milan is abuzz with Gucci's daring new 'Design Ancora' project, an immersive exhibition flaunting five iconic Italian design pieces re-envisioned in a striking red hue. Witnessed at the brand's legendary Via Monte Napoleone flagship from April 15th, this avant-garde showcase cements Gucci's boundary-pushing vision under new Creative Director Sabato De Sarno.
Co-curated with design maverick Michela Pelizzari, Design Ancora spotlights modern design trailblazers like Nanda Vigo, Mario Bellini, and Tobia Scarpa. Their revered creations, from the sensual Storet drawers to the imposing Le Mura sofa, are reimagined in Gucci's bold 'Rosso Ancora' red - a symbolic palette signaling the House's visionary new chapter.
"Gucci doesn't simply celebrate old icons, it creates new ones," declares Pelizzari. "The aura emanating from the brand spotlights five pieces by Italian masters that are perfect from a design standpoint but less known to the general public."
The exhibition's mise-en-scène is a feat of metaphysical theatre conceived by Barcelona's Guillermo Santomà. Green curved walls dissolve spatial boundaries, allowing each objet d'art to float untethered from domesticity. Santomà's surreal staging strips the designs of utility, elevating them to pure sculptural form.
Beyond the gallery, Via Monte Napoleone's windows dazzle with Gucci's bold installation flair. Weightless sneakers orbit in mid-air, while a customized 3D printer commands rapt attention – reminders that Design Ancora transcends mere product to erect new mileposts in avant-garde expression.
This immersive design experience prefaces an exclusive online drop on April 21st, offering collectors a shot at taking home a limited 'Rosso Ancora' edition of these newly anointed design talismans.
In reimagining the kaleidoscopic possibilities of everyday objects, Design Ancora cements Gucci's pursuit of the unconventional under De Sarno's tenure. The exhibition elevates functional design to metaphysical art, amplifying the brand's perpetual desire to spark curiosity while challenging perceptions of luxury.
