The final stop of its global journey Louis Vuitton 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries lands in New York

October 13, 2022

Louis Vuitton unveils the New York exhibition, the final destination of its 200 imaginative trunks realized by 200 visionaries. Originally conceived to celebrate the brand's bicentennial birthday, the traveling exhibition occupies four floors of the former landmark Barneys New York Building from October 14 through December 31. Details below.

The visionaries

The initiative brings together a mosaic of talents and friends of the House – spanning arts and culture, the sciences, sports, global causes, and more – who were invited to personalize the emblematic trunk. Among the familiar names: are Supreme, Gloria Steinem, BTS, Pat McGrath, Nigo®, and Fornasetti. A metaphorical blank canvas measuring 50 × 50 × 100 centimeters, approximately the dimensions of the original trunk Louis conceived in the 1850s, yielded 200 extraordinary transformations: vessels transmitting dreams and desires, abstract concepts, and artistic expressions.

This project has always been about creativity — a real tribute to Louis’s ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. We get to see how such a cross-section of talents answered the same brief while also taking a moment to appreciate the man himself.

In residency

Louis 200 project — to this space- an unprecedented insight into their work and artistic process. A reflection of the starting block of this global initiative in which Louis Vuitton window displays around the world were lit up with the digital works of the 200 visionaries, the Visual Image Studio team will be in residency, conceptualizing and constructing the exhibition window displays of the Barneys building exterior for November and December. Finally, continuing to support creative experimentation, visionaries from the exhibition will be invited every week to host a curated and varied series of workshops in an interactive experience for visitors. Local schools and educational organizations will also be present in the space fostering curated touch points to advance conversations with students and the next generation.

Freds x Louis

The exhibition 200 TRUNKS, 200 VISIONARIES will revive Freds, the iconic lunch location frequented by New Yorkers, for the entire duration of the show. Working with the original team of Freds, Freds x Louis will offer the most iconic items from the original menu in celebration and partnership of all this eatery once brought to New York City. Additionally, in the spirit of Freds, Freds x Louis is realized not only with the traditional touches and flourishes of Freds but with a Louis Vuitton exhibition twist throughout.

Freds x Louis, located on the 9th floor, will be open for lunch through the late afternoon and aperitifs and small bites until 8:00 pm daily for October with a reduced schedule to follow November–December.

Guests can secure their reservation to Freds x Louis via the exhibition booking site. louis-200-nyc-reservations.com

A philanthropic undertaking

The more comprehensive LV200 project remains an entirely philanthropic undertaking, an enduring gift on a grand scale. The first phase raised 2 million euros from the visionaries who directed 100 percent of their fees to one of 15 charitable organizations across thirteen countries selected to focus on uplifting young people through their creative endeavors. Details of the second phase are to be announced in due course. Ultimately, both phases of LV200 will support young and talented creatives as they continue their learning journey and careers.
