Louis Vuitton announces a new addition to its watch family, the exclusive Voyager Skeleton. The new addition to the family of open-worked movement watches, such as the Tambour Curve Flying Tourbillion Poinçon de Genève and the Voyage Flying Tourbillon Poinçon de Genève, is another invitation to the miniature world of mechanical watch movements. Only 150 pieces of the Voyager Skeleton will be offered.
LV60 Caliber
The new Voyager houses the LV60, a skeletonized movement that echoes the dynamism and architecture of some of Louis Vuitton's flagship stores and the Foundation Louis Vuitton by Frank Gehry.
Mechanical Minimalism
The LV60 caliber was designed by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton and manufactured in collaboration with the Neuchâtel-based workshop Le Cercle des Horlogers.
The bridges and plates of the LV60 caliber are artfully trimmed to the minimum required for structural integrity to shape the geometric lines of the Louis Vuitton Monogram. Another remarkable detail is the barrel ratchet wheel, boldly open-worked to spell “Louis Vuitton.”
To maximize the transparency of the Voyager, the LV60 caliber is equipped with a tungsten micro-rotor decorated with a white gold rhodium-plated plate. The micro-rotor winds the mainspring in a bidirectional way with efficiency thanks to a reverser-gear winding system.
The transparency of the movement shows the mechanics of the caliber and how power flows from the mainspring located at five o’clock through the going train and culminating at the balance wheel and escapement at 12 o’clock.
Also of note is the open barrel which serves as a power reserve indicator. Because it reveals the mainspring, the remaining running time can be approximated from the transparency of the mainspring: a tightly-coiled mainspring forming a solid ring indicates full wind, while loosely-arranged coils that allow the light through are a reminder to wind the watch.
The Purity of Platinum
An elegant form with an instantly recognizable shape, the Voyager is neither circle nor square but unquestionably Louis Vuitton.
The Voyager Skeleton debuts in platinum, a rare, valuable alloy 95% pure – hence the “Pt 950” hallmark on the case back. Platinum is used solely for exceptional timepieces at Louis Vuitton, including haute horlogerie and limited editions.
The Voyager Skeleton is in an exclusive edition, limited to 150 pieces.
