Nicolas Ghesquière showed the Louis Vuitton women's cruise 2023 collection yesterday at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego. The space designed by Louis Kahn was a source of inspiration for the show.
Architect Louis Kahn puts the sun, the creator of natural life, at the heart of the Salk Institute, a brutalist building from 1965 designed as a serene concrete monastery for enlightened souls. Moreover, at a specific time of day, during a blazing sunset, the sun is perfectly framed by the building within the precise axis of the central fountain. The combination of the sun rays and shimmering water bathes everything in a golden hue, transforming all it touches into gold.
The sun is called in as the guest of honor for the Cruise 2023 collection. The unique light West Coast light creates prisms on clothes full of reflections. Linen, silk, leather, tweed, give the illusion of a metallic palette, reverberating and shimmering under the sun. This creates a dialogue of vibrations between the silhouettes and the sunset.
Guests included Emma Roberts, Miranda Kerr, Donna Bae, Lea Seydoux, Ava Duvernay, and more. Explore the full Louis Vuitton cruise 2023 collection, collection details, and guests who attended the show, below. Images courtesy of Louis Vuitton.
