With a new sound and signature style, María Zardoya of The Marías transformed the Coachella stage into a runway this past weekend, captivating the crowd in a showstopping look from from McQueen’s Spring-Summer 2025 collection—a moment that blurred the lines between performance and performance art.

The Puerto Rican-born American vocalist—known for her hypnotic, genre-defying indie-popcommanded the spotlight in a striking ensemble that echoed her music’s ethereal yet assertive spirit. A halter-neck gown, crafted from sheer black tulle and embroidered with jet-black botanical motifs, cast an intricate arboreal shadow across her silhouette.

McQueen’s signature tension between romance and rawness was epitomized by a layered skirt, composed of black silk georgette and shredded organza. It moved like smoke at midnight, echoing the dreamlike cadence of The Marías’ set. The look reflected enduring themes of strength wrapped in fragility, and art shaped by nature—core to both Zardoya’s artistry and the house’s evolving visual lexicon.

Now in its 27th year, Coachella has evolved into a global platform where style resonates as deeply as sound. Zardoya’s sartorial choice marked a clear shift in festival fashion: a departure from fringe and florals, and a step toward high-concept elegance rooted in storytelling.

As The Marías enjoy their momentous sophomore album, Zardoya continues to emerge as a multi-dimensional artist whose fashion speaks with the same intrigue as her music.
