New York-based designer Marina Moscone unveiled the Spring Summer 2025 collection which took inspiration from Casa Giacomo Balla in Rome. With dexterity, Moscone translates simplicity and enhanced surface finishes into desirable ready-to-wear. Known for her impeccable tailoring and abstract draping, Moscone has pivoted towards a softer ethereal aesthetic that's unexpected and captivating.
A New Chapter in Moscone's Design Evolution
Influenced by silhouettes from the 1940s and 1990s, the designer ushered in her SS25 presentation at Il Buco Alimentari with a pale gray V-neck satin dress that whispered of new beginnings. This piece, with its delightful interplay of twisting and draping, set the tone for a collection that embodies evolution.
"There's much more of maybe a softness, a prettiness, to things, a little bit of a flowiness," Moscone mused to WWD. "I think that softness was probably always there, it just needed something to tap out. That's probably motherhood and my [3-month-old] son."
Dots, Drapes, and Dreams
A series of breezy organza voile overlays and sweet polka dot frocks shattered all expectations. Cut on the bias with naturally scalloped edges, these pieces offered a tantalizing glimpse into Moscone's new world – one where vintage lingerie inspirations meet modern sophistication.
Moscone's signature tension between masculine and feminine elements is still very much present, albeit in a more nuanced form. Case in point: a foulard-inspired side-tie dress in navy and red that manages to be both easy-breezy and utterly chic.
Craftsmanship Meets Comfort
What sets this collection apart is Moscone's unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, even as she embraces a more relaxed silhouette. "The silhouettes are very not overly studied, they're very easy — it's boxy, it's slips, it's sheath dresses," the designer explained. "I'd say the fabrics are very worked but I want putting it on to be easy, even through its meticulous fabric and workmanship in the embroidery."
From lightweight technical bonded crinkle utility trousers to box-pleated roomy layers, each piece in the collection speaks to a new philosophy of dressing – one that prizes comfort without sacrificing an ounce of style.
A Nod to the Past, A Step into the Future
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Moscone's SS25 collection is how it manages to look both forward and backward simultaneously. Drawing inspiration from both the 1940s and 1990s, the designer has created a collection that feels at once timeless and thoroughly modern.
The smocking technique, a hallmark of the collection, is reimagined as a highly wearable and tactile embellishment. Moscone's team meticulously hand-smocked prints by joining four dots into a center point, creating a floral motif that's as innovative as it is beautiful.
The Moscone Woman Evolves
Moscone's SS25 collection feels like a breath of fresh air. It's a collection that speaks to a woman who's confident enough to embrace softness, who understands that true luxury lies in the feel of fabric against skin, in the drape of a perfectly cut dress.
Marina Moscone's Spring Summer 2025 collection is a reminder that style isn't about adhering to a single aesthetic, but about growing, changing, and sometimes, softening. Marina Moscone will be leading the charge, one beautifully draped piece at a time.
