NIGO’s 90s-Inspired G-Class Leads Mercedes-Benz x Moncler Collaboration

October 27, 2024

Mercedes-Benz and Moncler have unveiled their most ambitious collaboration yet—a triumphant mix of automotive excellence and fashion innovation. At Shanghai's electrifying "The City of Genius" show on October 19, 2024, the partnership revealed a masterpiece that bridges decades: the "Project G-Class Past II Future."

A 90s Icon Reimagined

Under the creative direction of streetwear legend NIGO, this second art piece following 2023's PROJECT MONDO G in London transforms a restored 90s G-Class into a contemporary masterpiece. The 4.5-metre masterpiece emerges in a sophisticated olive green and grey palette, punctuated by bold black and gold accents. Its clean lines and cabriolet silhouette speak to both nostalgia and nowness, while custom touches—including a gold-hued fuel can and Devon Turnbull's removable "boom box" sound system—cement its status as a cultural artifact.

Limited Edition Legacy

This artistic vision manifests in a limited-edition series of just 20 vehicles, each carrying the collaboration's DNA. Based on the new G 450 d and G 500 models, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Past II Future edition marries NIGO's street sensibility with Mercedes' legendary engineering, featuring distinctive two-tone paintwork and checkerboard upholstery that whispers of heritage while shouting innovation.

Street Style Meets Luxury

The collaboration includes a gender-neutral capsule collection as a testament to 90s influence, featuring souvenir jackets, hoodies, parkas, and windbreakers with a vintage look. The palette plays it cool—blues, blacks, and greens punctuated by orange accents—while archival imagery of both brands creates a dialogue between past and present.

Past Forward Campaign

Against the angular metallic surfaces of a city rooftop, the "Past Forward" campaign captures this cultural convergence. Here, under Thibaut Grevet's lens, the urban spirit of the collection comes alive.

With A$AP Rocky, Willow Smith, Edward Enninful, Donald Glover, and other cultural luminaries, including Rick Owens and Jil Sander attending, the event celebrated a new vanguard for luxury collaborations. April 2025 marks the moment when this vision becomes tangible, as both the limited-edition G-Class and the capsule collection become available to those bold enough to embrace this fusion of past and future.
