Prada men’s spring summer 2023

June 22, 2022

Prada men's SS23 Parade

Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons present the Prada men's SS23 show in Milan. The methodology for the collection is described as using direct, recognizable, archetypical pieces such as suits, overcoats, sweaters, shirt, denim, and leather to recontextualize. "The result are a complexity of thought behind apparently simple results."

Re-contextualizing

Highlights include elastic, leather shorts and checked patterns that "simultaneously evoke memories of childhood, domestication or sophistication." The friction of where these reference points meet are of particular interest to Miuccia and Raf. Slim tailoring on otherwise traditional two button wide lapel suits gives the Prada uniform an interesting departure. Color blocking, stripes, and full denim looks further provide this season with an energetic vitality.

The show was presented in an oversized mocked-up house, executed entirely in raw-edged paper. This had the effect of questioning the human and the real - "the quotidian and everyday, in material and image, both fashion into something exceptional, functioning as a backdrop to the clothes and as a protagonist itself." Once again Prada succeeds at challenging our perceptions and asking deeper questions beyond the garments.

Guests

Guests of the show this season included: Odell Beckham Jr., Kimberly Drew, Michael Elmgreen, Theaster Gates, Ncuti Gatwa, Jeff Goldblum, Jake Gyllenhaal, Damson Idris, Jaehyun, Song Kang, Rami Malek, Metawin Opas-iamkajorn, Tyler Mitchell, Louis Partridge, Manu Rios, Filippo Scotti, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, among the others.

"On the occasion of the Prada Men's SS23 Fashion Show, the Prada Group is pleased to host in Milan artist and social innovator Theaster Gates and the awardees of the Dorchester Industries Experimental Design Lab for a two-day retreat with the Prada team filled with dedicated meetings, presentations, and collaborative activities."
