Walter Van BeirendonckSpring-Summer 2023

Walter Van Beirendonck unveiled the SS23 show in Paris. The show begins with a series of black ghosts that dramatically unveiled this season's looks. Titled 'WIRWAR,' the show's name translated from Dutch means a mixture, confusion, or garbled.

Van Beirendonck showed a fantastical collection with quintessential youth references and otherworldly shapes, prints, and designs from his lexicon. The ruffle becomes a uniting feature for this season. Trench coats, bomber jackets, and shirting take on new forms with the tongue-in-cheek Victorian treatments.

The last looks of the show illustrate what Van Beirendonck does best: fantastical maximalist imagination. A burst of color, wild prints, and a shirt that boldly reads: 'Peace.' Van Beirendonck has long championed his collections on themes of love and often imbues his collections with political motifs. For example, take his Fall 2020 collection titled, 'WAR: Walter: About Rights.' In the collection, messaging is boldly displayed on sculptural silhouettes. This collection continues his powerful messaging in overtly poetic gestures.
