WINNIE fall winter 2022

WINNIE presents the Fall Winter 2022 collection as part of Paris Fashion Week. This season was inspired by Dumile Feni, a South African contemporary artist whose work depicted the struggle of apartheid in South Africa.

“The collection garments were also inspired by Dumile Feni and the way he would proportion the body within his work. Showcasing extreme features, huge torsos with small lower bodies, which is seen throughout the tailoring in the lookbook. Creating silhouettes where the model is tailored overtop and bellows out at the bottom, visually representing a walking triangle. Unconventional layering is another main concept, styling items where they aren’t commonly seen. Placing a blazer under a shirt and pants on top of pants. Grotesque shapes that are not associated with humans and how they wear clothing.”

About WINNIE its Creative Director, Idris Balogun:

WINNIE embodies luxury in a saturated consumerism culture with the intent to create a lasting product. Small and focus collections will unveil modern tailoring made of exceptional fabrics.

Idris Balogun was born in Brooklyn to Nigerian immigrants. He spent most of his life in London where he dedicated himself to fashion. Beginning his career at Hardy Amies on Savile Row gaining an apprenticeship studying pattern making and cutting, then working with Burberry under the direction of Christopher Bailey before moving to the United States to work with Tom Ford.

Balogun founded WINNIE New York in 2018. An homage to his late grandmother Princess Winifred Dademu.
