Disney and Virgil Abloh honor the late visionary artist and designer with never-before-seen Mickey Mouse artwork

Disney and Virgil Abloh Securities, Abloh's creative corporation with a mission to honor his legacy, will showcase never-before-seen artwork of Mickey Mouse via limited-edition merchandise as the Brooklyn Museum's Virgil Abloh: "Figures of Speech" gift shop.

The exhibition traces two decades of the late artist and designer’s visionary work and highlights Abloh’s emphasis on collaboration which reshaped popular notions of, and contemporary taste in, fashion, art, commerce, design, and youth culture. 

This "Figures of Speech" special edition sees the iconic Mickey Mouse through the eyes of Virgil Abloh. Rooted in the childhood innocence and boundless imagination that this iconic character evokes, this personification embodies the world-building possibilities afforded by adolescence, which is a recurring motif in Virgil’s practice. 

Virgil Abloh’s artwork featuring his unique interpretation of Mickey Mouse will be printed in various colorways, and on a select assortment of products including sweatshirts and tees for both adults and children.

The collection will be available to purchase at the Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” exclusive shop at the Brooklyn Museum, “Church and State,” and online here while supplies last. Prices range from $30 - $120.  Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” opened July 1, 2022 and features brand-new elements and never-before-seen objects from Abloh’s archive, presented in Brooklyn Museum’s Great Hall.
