Last night, the stars walked the red carpet of The Met Gala 2022 under the theme "Gilded Glamor and White Tie". Co-hosted by Vogue's Dame Anna Wintour and Blake Lively, the stars certainly lived up to the opulent event.
The Gilded Age
Billionaire Elon Musk attended with his mother, model, Maye Musk. His presence truly recalled the Gilded Age (1870s - 1900s), or robber baron age, depending on who you ask.
The late 19th Century was known for a time of materialistic excesses combined with extreme poverty. One star clearly understood the assignment. Award-winning British-Pakastani actor, Riz Ahmed, paid "an homage to the immigrant workers who kept the Gilded Age going" in a modest red carpet look.
In America: An Anthology of Fashion
Co-chair Blake Lively paid tribute to the city of New York to celebrate the new Met exhibit, In America: An Anthology of Fashion. Lively wore two Versace dresses that recalled the Statue of Liberty (dedicated 1886) and other NYC icons. Shawn Mendes combined a sporty Tommy Hilfiger single button suit with purple nail polish. Olivia Rodrigo wore a lavender Versace dress as a nod to her hit album SOUR.
The glamour
Jared Leto and doppelgänger, Gucci designer, Alessandro Michele, channeled each other in matching Gucci outfits. Kaia Gerber stunned in a heavily embroidered Alexander McQueen dress. Dove Cameron walked the red carpet in Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen. Finally, rapper Cardi B walked the red carpet in Versace with designer Donatella Versace.
